Craft with Buna
As we retreat indoors, keeping ourselves and others around us safe, we find ourselves with ample time on our hands to explore new hobbies and activities. We, at Buna, are always looking for ways to make the best out of our waste fabric scraps, creating some fun products along the way. We thought to extend our tutorials with you in a time where everyone is seeking happy distraction from the turmoil in our everyday life. Follow through for our tassel keychain and a fun hair-do for those stay-at-home outfits.
The Tassel Keychain
We took a few of our scrap fabrics, trims and laces and turned it into a keychain, our key to repurposing old fabrics into everyday joys.
Things you need:
1. 2 split rings
2. Fabric scraps and trims
3. A pair of scissors
4. Needle and thread
How to:
- Tear or using the scissors, cut up-to 10-15 strips of fabrics and throw in some ribbons and laces to add to the bunch.
- String these strips through one of the key rings and fold them in half and hold in place
- Once you align and arrange the strips, stitch them in place using a needle and thread. Then take another thinner strip of fabric around the tassels to hold them in place, adding stitches along the way to secure the tassels.
- Trim the tassels to a uniform length
- Loop this split ring through another one and add keys to make it a keychain.
Fabric Woven Braid
An easy way to make work-from-home dressing a bit more fun by using scrap fabrics to make a woven braid that not only looks cute but also keeps your hair out of your way all day long.
1. Things you need:
2. Fabric scraps and trims
3. A hair tie
How to:
- Use your fingers to divide your hair into three sections.
- Tie a strip of fabric/trim to the top of each section to secure the hair in place for braiding.
- Move the section in your right hand over its neighbor. The right section becomes the centre section and the former centre section is now on the right.
- Next, move the left section to cross over its neighbour to the centre position.
- Repeat the above two steps, alternating criss-crosses for the length of your hair until you reach the end.
- Secure with a hair tie and add another fabric trim over it, tying a bow.
We hope these activities add a little colour and fun to your everyday. Try them out and feel free to reach out to us in case of any questions or with images of your keychains and hair dos.
Happy crafting with Buna!
